Cross the street, and you're there. Terminus Nord is right across from Gare du Nord. For those taking the Eurostar from Amsterdam, the station itself isn't exactly inviting for lingering. Terminus Nord is the reason to pause. I've been doing it for years, in both directions.
If the train arrives around midday, leaving Amsterdam around nine, I head straight in for lunch. Oysters, onion soup, a glass of wine. In ten minutes, you're out of the station's hustle and bustle and settled in an art-deco room with mirrors, mosaic floors, and stained glass that captures the light in a quintessentially Parisian way. The city begins here, not on the Champs-Élysées.
Terminus Nord is the Best Brasserie by Gare du Nord: The Details Are Spot On
Terminus Nord has been around since 1925, and it shows. And I mean that as a compliment. No renovation has stripped its soul; instead, the interior stands firm. Waiters in black-and-white uniforms, closely packed tables, the buzz of travelers arriving or departing (yes, with rolling luggage). The staff is quick and sharp, which you’d expect at a brasserie in this location.
The menu is classically French without fuss: oysters, steak frites, escargots, confit de canard. The oysters are fresh daily and exactly what you want after a three-hour train. The onion soup is the type of comfort dish you order nowhere else like in Paris.
Breakfast Is Worth It Too
If you're leaving Paris early in the morning, this is another reason to pop in. For 8 euros, you have a breakfast menu (croissant, fresh juice, coffee). Simple, good, no hassle. If you catch your train at eight, this is exactly the start you need. We did it on the way back and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
The brasserie is open every day from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, making it convenient for both early birds and late arrivals.
Bouillon Chartier: A Good Option a Little Further
For those who want to spend a bit less or have more time: Bouillon Chartier is a 10-minute walk away. A genuine bouillon, steak frites for a tenner, always busy and slightly chaotic. Certainly not bad, but a different experience from Terminus Nord. If you've just stepped off the train and still have your luggage, Terminus Nord's location easily wins out.

Terminus Nord is popular, and you'll notice that. Especially on weekends and around lunchtime. Online reservations are wise, especially if you have a train to catch and don't want to risk waiting for a table. At Gare du Nord, Terminus Nord is simply the best spot for those looking to land or depart.
