Le Marais in Paris is the neighborhood I always return to when I'm in Paris. Narrow streets, stunning boutiques, classic bistros, lovely hotels, cozy cafés, and museums all close together. You can spend an entire day here without a plan, yet feel like you've done all the right things. Wander, grab a drink at a terrace, pop into the Marché des Enfants Rouges, shop in the side streets. That's Le Marais at its best.
What to Do in Le Marais Paris
Passage de l'Ancre is one of those spots you'd miss if you didn't know it existed. A narrow, green passageway with colorful façades and blooming plants, it's remarkably quiet while life goes on outside. During World War II, Jewish people were hidden here. There's still one original shop: Pep's, where you can buy umbrellas. Small, historic, and exactly the kind of spot that makes Le Marais special.
Place des Vosges is the most beautiful square in Paris, and that's not an opinion but simply a fact. Stroll through, sit at Carette for a famous hot chocolate, then visit Maison Victor Hugo to understand why this square has attracted people for centuries. Le Village Saint-Paul is tucked between Rue Saint-Antoine and the Seine and feels like a small village in the heart of the city. Medieval streets, quiet courtyards, antique shops, art galleries, and studios next to cozy cafés. Larger than Passage de l'Ancre, yet just as peaceful. Ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of the city center.
The Picasso Museum deserves a morning of its own. Not overwhelmingly large, but rich and well-curated, in a beautiful historic building in the middle of the district. Reserve a time slot in advance.

Sleeping in Le Marais Paris: Three Hotels I Would Choose
1. Hotel Jules & Jim is in the Upper Marais and offers a stylish yet low-key vibe that perfectly matches the neighborhood. Twenty-three rooms, a five-minute walk from the Musée National des Arts et Métiers. Not big, not flashy, but good.
2. Hotel Maison Saintonge is eight hundred meters from Place des Vosges and has a cool Parisian vibe with a stylish appearance. There's a sweet shop downstairs, rooms above. For those who want to feel Le Marais without spending too much.
3. Le Grand Mazarin is the luxury choice on this list. Five stars, colorful interiors, a beautiful bar, and a pool downstairs with stunning frescoes on the ceiling. Boot Café is small, quiet, and just right for a morning in the Marais. Delicious coffee, tasty cookies, and a vibe that doesn't rush you. For those who want to start the day well before shopping begins.
Clown Bar is a well-known spot and deservedly so. Classic modern cuisine with dishes like sweetbreads and red mullet, in an iconic art-nouveau interior next to the old winter circus. Also recommended for those who just want to have a drink at the bar.
Chez Janou features in all the guides, and not without reason. Urban, young, and lively, with a famous chocolate mousse served in a big bowl at the table to serve yourself. Reservations are a must.
Benoit is the classic spot in the Marais for a night out. Seafood, a good glass of wine, and that feeling that you're right where you should be.

The interior is meticulously crafted as an art-nouveau bar from one hundred thirty years ago, with the world's largest private collection of antique Bimini glasses and light fixtures reflecting the organic shapes of the style. Downstairs is airy and light, upstairs darker and more intimate with a futuristic twist.
The Cambridge Public House is a British pub that secretly doubles as a cocktail bar. Simple interior, laid-back service, screens for sports, and a refined drink menu. Try the Akira Kira: grapefruit, sencha tea, galanga root, vodka, and Lillet Blanc. Accompanied by meat pies, roast pork, and sausage rolls.
